CFA moving to a new home
After over 15 years at Abbeyholm Stables in Lansdown we are moving to a new studio in Normandy House, High Street, Cheltenham.
Originally the School of Painting and Drawing, and more recently as Cheltenham School of FIne Art “CFA” has been located in the old stable block for many years. And it is with some regret that we leave an area that once was a haven in central Cheltenham for artists studios and craft workshops. However, the battle against the building falling down is lost as long standing water ingress is making the building unsafe. Our wobbly floor is getting worse, the standing water and damp in the downstairs space is increasing, and the roof and gutters have failed exacerbating the problem. At the same time a massive redevelopment is planned that will swamp the area with white vans, concrete mixers, noise and dust, tear down our neighbours studios, and with it the heart of the area.
So looking forward, we are moving with some of the other artists from Lansdown to Normandy House. We will occupy three studios on the top floor, with great north light in the main studio, a separate kitchen and bathroom and reserved parking at the back of the building. It is perfect for our use in all respects except we were looking for studios that could be accessible for those with limited mobility. However, as we are on the top floor this is the one aspect that we had to compromise on.
To “warm” the new studio we are having two open days on Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd November from 10 – 4. All welcome to drop in to look around or join one of the taster sessions that will be running. So once the last class ends on Friday 18th October we will start the move – and thanks to all who have offered help!
Directions and other information will be handed out at classes next week, and be posted on this website, and as ever get in touch if you have any questions.
