A series of one day watercolour workshops run by Tom Kane for those keen to refresh their skills who have some previous watercolour experience.

"Immerse yourself in the exhilarating, expressive world of watercolour painting. An enjoyable and rewarding watercolour course suitable for beginners and improvers alike.

28th September - painting buildings

16th November - painting water and reflections

7th December - painting textures in the landscape.

"With watercolour we paint the light, and this makes it a particularly suitable medium for painting buildings, from busy street-scenes to mediaeval villages to farms in the landscape.

During this workshop we’ll examine this subject in detail. We’ll discuss perspective and composition; the use of shadows in bringing buildings to life; using figures to provide scale; rendering architectural details; using negative painting to emphasise the light. Participants will undertake a variety of practical exercises and should finish the day with a fresh, lively painting to take home."

This is an adult class.

Suitable for beginner and improver watercolourists

The workshop will be led by Tom Kane.

Details

Each workshop is booked separately and will be run from 10-4pm, with an hours lunch break.
The class will be held in the main studio of Cheltenham School of Fine Art on the first floor of Camargue House, 32 Wellington Lane, Cheltenham GL52 2AG.

What you need to bring to the studio

Please bring your lunch with you or step out to the cafe in Pittville Park to grab a snack. We also recommended that you bring your notebook / sketchbook and pencils with you if you have them.

There is free 4 hour parking around the nearby Pittville Park or NCP parking at North Place.

CFA

The people who use Cheltenham School of Fine Art are a great mix of ages, abilities and varied interest in the arts – from classical to contemporary. Many are individuals wishing to improve on existing skills in drawing and painting, and there are those who draw or paint for recreation or who have always wanted to try their hand at the arts. CFA is great for those who wish to explore their ideas and skills in painting and expand their technical abilities through experimental drawing. We cater for students who work full time and are interested in drop in options in life drawing, painting or evening courses. Practising artists benefit from engaging with the community of the school and furthering their work in a supported environment. We regularly hold exhibitions of work for sale from the school. We support A level and degree students, both foundation and undergraduates wishing to build and strengthen their portfolio or supplement course work with sessions in our studio.
