This pair of workshops (£75 each or £125 for the pair) is expressly designed for those who have never tackled watercolour before - total beginners!
For those thinking of dipping a toe into the world of watercolour it can be very hard to know where to begin.
What materials should I use? What size and shape of brush? How do I mix colours without making mud? Do I need to be able to draw? How do I plan my work? How do I even get the paint onto the paper? Why won’t the paint do what I want it to do?!!
If you’re asking yourself these questions, be assured you’re not alone! Watercolour techniques are not difficult to learn, but without some guidance this beguiling medium can seem exasperating, even impossible.
We’re here to help.
You’ll learn to paint beautiful, fresh washes; to work with the paint, instead of fighting it; to appreciate the extraordinary translucent beauty of the pigments, and their unique capacity to layer and blend and flow. Through practical exercises we’ll help you build confidence and learn to tread the fine line between chaos and control, triumph and disaster, and to embrace the ‘happy accident’. Most importantly, it’ll be fun.
The workshops have been designed as a pair. To get the most out of them, participants are encouraged to book both (the second is offered at a reduced rate). Thus, those wishing to attend the second, on Nov 2nd, should ideally have attended the first, or have some prior experience with watercolour.

Each workshop will be run from 10-4pm, with an hours lunch break.
The class will be held in the main studio of Cheltenham School of Fine Art on the first floor of Camargue House, 32 Wellington Lane, Cheltenham GL52 2AG.
What you need to bring to the studio
Please bring your lunch with you or step out to the cafe in Pittville Park to grab a snack. We also recommended that you bring your notebook / sketchbook and pencils with you if you have them.
Please wear or bring soft soled shoes to wear in the studio.
There is free 4 hour parking around the nearby Pittville Park or NCP parking at North Place.
